The Magic of High School Reunion

“High school days, happy days in the halls of Albay High”(School-Polangui). This is the lyric of one of the graduation songs of class ’55..
High school reunion is regarded by many with fondness and good memories. It is the gathering of schoolmates and friends you have meet and known so well in a span of 4 memorable years. These affairs provide an engaging opportunity to be with schoolmates again who were once part of your life, and get updated on what’s happening to them. You’ll get to see who has aged, who has bloomed; who has double chin, who has false teeth, who has eyeglasses, who has falling hairs and visions, who has wrinkled up, who wears hearing aid, who has cosmetic surgery done. Also, who looks happy, who is successful, who is oldest and youngest, who has added weight, whose hair turned to gray or no more hair at all! Who has stayed married, separated, or still very available after so many years gone. Who has passed away, and who are still ‘kicking’. It recall your first
”love” and the occasion of seeing him/her again even with children or grandchildren. And many more.
Some are apprehensive to attend reunions. They worry that they fall short of the expectation of their classmates and friends. But, the best way to overcome this is to be comfortable with yourself and meet with confidence and enthusiasm. After all, the purpose of school reunion is not knowing “who is who now” but seeing each other again after years of absence. If you try to go thru your yearbook, expect some to change thru the years and not look like how you remember them to be. So, wearing your name tag is the best way for them to remember or to recognize you.
Experience shows, that something miraculous happens in every reunion. As soon as classmates and friends have warmed up to each other, they will see past the wrinkles gray hairs, hearing aids and layer of fat added thru the years. Everybody becomes young in everybody’s eyes again and believe it or not, they all start like they were children or in high school again. Indeed, a high school reunion has this magic- the exhilarating illusions of feeling young again even just for one day!
Thank you, Salamat and Mabalos fellow alumni for your presence. You made us feel so happy and so young.
